To be honest, personally I am less concerned with “genuine relationships” than I am in having a “professional dialogue” with a parent. Even as a doctor, my relationship with patients was always professional – nothing like the “fawning” we see when some teachers speak with parents – and they loved me for it. They didn’t need a friend, they expected a top-notch doctor to treat their problems.
